I'm a compulsive designer, obsessive art director, relentless creative director, livery-obsessed motorsport junkie, and lifelong believer that choosing to care about the details is not really a choice.

I started in Providence, Rhode Island, as a junior art director, learned from some intimidatingly good people, and spent nearly two decades at Arnold Worldwide, going from art director to Executive Creative Director and Managing Partner while working on brands like Jack Daniel’s, Jeep, Converse, Fidelity Investments, and others with their own histories, rules, and very particular ways of doing things.

After 25 years in agencies, I left my perfectly good job at Arnold because I needed to find out what I could do outside the familiar rhythms of agency life. So I went brand-side as the first Creative Director at SimpliSafe, built an in-house studio, took the brand to the Super Bowl, and helped create the most recalled campaign in the company’s history.

Since then, I’ve led brand design at Mechanica, a strategic consultancy full of very bright people, and today I lead creative at Evolved By Nature, a biotech company doing important things for the planet and the people living on it — with a penchant for imaginative marketing in a category that could use more of it. There have also been more than a few passion projects along the way, proving I still like making things even when no one is making me.

Through all of it, the job has stayed pretty consistent: find the people who understand the power of creativity as a business driver, execute with what some might call an unreasonable level of care, and try to make the process something people might actually enjoy surviving.
